What A Church Building Committee Does To Your Community

By Beryl Dalton

Every venture needs a group of people who will spearhead the planning and the implementation process. This group is not only composed of people who have the necessary skills to do the job assigned to them. They are those who can work will with a group and have the mindset to finish the task at hand at their best.

For a community of believers, building a church is necessary. This is the place where they gather, express their faith and worship God along with the other members. The construction of the place is so delicate that a church building committee has to be organized.

Individuals who comprise this group are those who have the technical skills for construction and the head pastor or minister of the church. They have specific roles to do and are proven to be efficient on that field. Specifically, here are their major roles.

Overseeing the project. The only means to evaluate whether everything is going according to planned is if somebody checks it regularly. This the main responsibility of the committee chairman. He or she heads the group and has the basic knowledge in every aspect of the venture.

Creation of project design. After the detailed planning, the actual putting out of idea follows. This is where the technical skills of architects and engineers come in. They provide the details of the building process and creates a blue print of the place. This is then shown to the whole group for approval. Things that have to be changed or improved will be addressed during the gathering.

Handles the financial needs of the project. Out of the things gathered from the design, the financial management team will then create or review the budget plan for the project. In here, they assess whether the current amount of money that the group has is enough to pay for their initial expense. They also create a sort of projection for the additional expense needed on the project.

Publicizes the project to the members and give them updates. Also, they are the ones responsible for informing the community about the progress of the construction. They publicize the ongoing projects in hopes to attract potential donors who are interested to help.

Funding. There are times when the current money that they have is not enough to fund every expense. This is where fund raising comes in. A separate person is in charge of this and thinks of ways to get funding for the project. It could be a concert for a cause, an exhibit, and any other projects that the community can find helpful.

Just because you are not a member of this head group does not mean that you cannot participate. The church needs proactive members who have the heart to help. If you think you can contribute something, go ahead and let them know. They may need people today for an event as we speak. Be a volunteer.
