Use Area Rugs To Protect Floors

By Angela Turner

Often the inside of a home reflects the taste of an individual. Sometimes simple, stylish, or organized are intended choices for the feel of a room. What some may not realize is that area rugs can bring some character with little effort.

These come in multiple styles and colors but fabric is often the first consideration before making a purchase. Cottons are soft and easy to clean, while wool is durable but needs to go to the dry cleaners at least once a year. Some people like synthetic yarns to get the best of both worlds but professional cleanings will help it last longer.

Many choose a rug for its visual appeal, followed by its practicality. These days, rugs are available in a number of sizes and textures and hues. Some are so decorative that people feel that it is better hung, or mounted, to a wall instead laying on the floor.

When it come to rooms that appear monochromatic, a little bit of color can liven up the space. Something as simple as a patterned rug can bring contrast to a theme. Normally, traditional rooms may benefit from something eclectic like sheepskin or pattern that matches other interior colors. Even better are earth tone spaces coordinated with something bright like red or a yellowish green.

While synthetic fabrics may be washed at home as needed, this also allows easy change, as a person may desire. Imported rugs require detailed care, and cost a great deal more. Additionally, these are very heavy to move from one place to another. For some, the price is worth the effort to maintain a colorful accessory with great value.

While a professional cleaning may extend its life, the idea is generally to protect the air from dirt. It may seem like a job but when people first move into a space, they may deep clean the carpet or give the floors a good wiping before laying down a large rug made to work miracles.

This is one reason that people are beginning to choose hardwood floors for common areas. It can help reduce the exposure to allergens and dirt that are airborne or are tracked into the home. Even with regular vacuuming, most machines for home use do not go below the surface. An area rug can help protect carpet between deep cleaning sessions.

If one decides to decorate a room using the color of an area rug, window treatments are the most practical way to go when experimenting. A person can decide if a curtain or special type of blinds are the best choice for their home. Should a combination of treatments be used, it can be fun to pick a secondary color found in the rug or a large piece of furniture.

Large rugs can also cover small imperfections. Carpet stains, floor markings, or device wires are instantly hidden once a rug is in place. Renters and people with little time to give their home a detailed cleaning appreciate what rugs can do.
