The Role Of A Judge In The Juvenile And Domestic Relations Court Virginia Beach

By Eric Wood

When minors have been reported to have committed a crime, they are normally tried and prosecuted in this legal set-up. However these types of legal set-up are different from the adult criminal legal framework in that they have limited trial options. Despite the trial option being minimal, the court ensures that action has been taken against the minor according to the constitutional rights. Apart from taking legal action here are some of the roles played by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Virginia Beach VA in ensuring that justice has been served.

Virginia Beach VA has so many professional juries who are qualified in the field and help the court resolve cases affecting the minors. Despite the many roles they play, one of the traditional roles a juvenile jury does is to make decision of the correct measures which should be taken to the minor. They act as gatekeepers by ensuring these juveniles are given their rights by their family.

When a minor has been reported to have committed crime the action taken against them is different from criminal offenses committed by adults. This is due to the fact that the constitutional rights which govern these minors are different from the ones governing the adults. However, in other circumstances some cases involving minors can be transferred to adult juries in a process called a Waiver. A good example of such cases is rape or murder cases.

A minor can only be transferred and tried in an adult jury if he or she is above the age of 16 years. As much as children lawyers fight tirelessly to get the case confined in such an environment there are several benefits of the minor being tried in the adult criminal court.

Together with other lawyers, juvenile juries work together in forming a standard system on how activities should be conducted. However, since not all cases are brought before a judge, the jury ensures that the parties involved in resolving these cases have served justice to all the parties. They achieve this by keeping track of all the minor cases which do not reach the court by investigating how they get resolved and which resolution techniques were used and by whom?

As much as the legal framework fight tirelessly in dealing with minors who are involved in deliquescence the proceeding of a juvenile court are private and confidential. It is the duty of the court to protect the names of parents and children who have been involved in cases involving minors.

Like adult court, children juries have sentencing options called disposition orders. This involves sending the minor in to traditional juvenile facility. Alternatively the minors can be subjected to punishments which are not confined. This type of punishments may include probation, curfews and counseling.

It is the mandate of jury to make decisions on the right action to be taken when a minor has been connected with delinquency. This depends on the complexity of the case. On the other hand the court is expected to ensure that all the systems that make up the children court are executing their duties. The juvenile legal framework works hand in hand with the community in installing good morals and laying down strategies on how to reduce delinquency cases among the minors. By so doing they help reduce criminal cases among juveniles.
