As a matter of fact, gun violence usually claim thousands of live every year, causing more debates over how and if a public policy on guns could drive the number of deaths down. However, according to numerous studies, there is some evidence that stronger gun laws may result in less violence.

More guns basically means that more criminal activities with thrive. This has been established to be a fact by studies which have constantly revealed how a rise in firearm ownership links positively to the rise in homicide and suicide cases. Whether this takes place in the streets or within homes places where handguns and rifles are easily obtained are more prone to crime. This normally happens especially among the wealthy and the mid-income societies.

Nonetheless, when stringent gun-use policies are enforced, it becomes easy to prevent individuals who should not access firearms from accessing them. However, in the jurisdictions where legislations on purchasing, owning and using firearms are weak, cases such as robbery, assaults, rape and murder are usually high. In fact, the right to carrying guns largely links to rising cases of violence and assaults. A number of criminologists, law-abiding citizens and even public health experts are also in agreement with this observation.

Nevertheless, there are a few activists who are advocating and voicing for ease in access of guns together with fewer oversight and weaker legislations. Nevertheless, one way of reducing and limiting firearm-related homicide, suicide as well as accidents is to implement smart regulations on firearms. Similar to the introducing the mandatory policy on seatbelt in the highways that faced resistance across the US, firearm use regulation may cause far-reaching effects just as with seat-belt regulations that also had ripple effects around the world.

Ideally, regulating firearm use or even controlling civilian access, ownership or use is now being popular in countries around the world. It is a fact that more firearms are possessed by civilians as compared to those with the soldiers and the police. A conducive and responsible governance is however only achievable with the implementation of firearm use legislations.

Basically, strong legislations on guns does not mean taking the guns away from the citizens. However, this would mean transparent procedures and rules that are intended to manage possession, carrying and storage of firearms in order to limit access of firearms to the legitimate users only.

At the same time, the goal should be to ensure that the safety of the public prevails above private interests. Actually, every country across the world allow some level of civilian ownership, but responsible regulation intends to balance legitimate use by the civilian against social harms that can arise.

State legislation on the use of guns usually vary across states. It is common to find some states that implement more firearm restrictions as compared to others. For example, gun owners who are visiting other states can have access to reciprocity and recognition on the legislation that are put in place on gun use bearing similarities with that of home states. Nonetheless, not all states can grant these rights. Again, some states will grant more rights for gun ownership as opposed to other states. For instance, there are states that provide for the possession of guns by employees even in the company employing them. Some states prohibit this.
