Finding A Massachusetts Justice Of The Peace That Meets Your Style

By Nita McKinney

A Justice of the Peace official has duties that are very similar to a judicial judge. Since they are not an official court appointed judge, they do have limitations of their authority. Depending on the state that they are in, a Justice of the Peace officer will have certain things that they can perform and other things things that they cannot. In Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Justice of the Peace Association has been formed to monitor the practices of the officials to make sure that they are performing their duties to the best of their capabilities.

The Massachusetts Justice of the Peace Association was established in 1975 to oversee the duties of the officers. The non profit organization was created to bring honor and to make sure that officers perform their duties to the highest ethnics and values. In the state, most of the responsibilities that officers oversee is that of marriage.

Applying for a marriage license is the first thing that a couple will want to do when they decide to get married. They must physically appear together before the city clerk office and declare that they want to get married. They must present legal documentation that they are of legal age. If not, they will receive instructions from the clerk on how they should proceed.

If the marriage license is given, marriage can take place at any part of Massachusetts. Getting this license is a mandatory step that a couple will have to take before giving their vows. Many people think that witnesses have to be present for a marriage to be recognized. This is not the case though as the presence of an officiant is all that is needed for it to be legal.

Once a ceremony has taken place and two people are pronounced as being married, the officiant will have to fill out some information on the certificate and will return it to the county clerk's office that the couple had originally applied for the certificate. There is no set amount of time that the official has to return the certificate. It is best to ask him or her when they think they will have it returned.

Am official can solemnize a marriage anywhere in the state. There does not have to be a traditional ceremony for the marriage to be valid. There are not certain words that need to be said, but the two people getting married must say something that is understood as an agreement to take the other party as their partner in marriage. The officer must then pronounce the two parties as man and wife.

When it comes to choices, a couple will have many to choose from. All officiants have their own way of how they go about doing things. It is important for a couple to make sure that they choose one that meets their particular style of how they want things done.

A Massachusetts Justice of the Peace official is appointed to serve a seven year term. The Governor appoints them to the city of which they reside in. They have also made it mandatory that an officiant is appointed for every 5000 residents of a city. Very large cities will have many officials to choose from.
