Why Is It Bad Luck To See The Bride?

By Hedrick Lepsch

The happy couple's special day should be one to remember, and not for all of the mistakes that were made in the planning phase.

While every wedding can still be a memorable and enjoyable event even if mistakes are made during the planning phase, a couple, and especially the bride, will be able to better enjoy their special day if they will strive to avoid the following common wedding planning mistakes.

For instance, did you ever wonder why the garter toss is such a prevalent tradition at every wedding. At some point during the reception, the groom takes the garter off of the bride's leg and shoots it into a crowd of eager-or emotionally stagnant-men to fight over.

The real danger or mistake of overspending on the bride's dress is not that the budget has been blown, but that the budget has been blown to the point of having nothing but the dress.

It was rumored in older time that getting a piece of the bride's undergarments represented good luck for the future. Some would obtain it in hopes of good fortune throughout the year.

It just so happens that the idea to not see the bride before the big day came from a time of arranged marriages. Two families would agree to let their sons and daughters marry in order to gain some political, land, or other kind of increase for their own family.

For example, if a bride has set a fashion budget of one thousand dollars, this does not mean that she should buy a dress with a thousand dollar price tag.

Not only will the dress come out to be more than the one grand, what with taxes and alterations, but then the bride's fashion budget will have been blown on the dress alone, leaving no room for accessories, jewelry, hair ordainments, etc.

For one reason or another, this ceremony of "tossing out the garter" found its way to the wedding ceremony and became a tradition for the ages. To this day, men still gather together for the garter toss for good luck.

This can lead to one major problem-the specific flower the couple so desires is not in season, which means the cost for flowers just skyrocketed as those flowers have to be brought in from distant greenhouses or locations.

This is what legend and pop culture tell us of the origins of the garter toss. The truth of the origin may be found in it, or it may be lost to time.

As arranged marriages have ceased in many of today's cultures, the tradition remains, even though they has less meaning now. Today, many couples uphold the superstition that it's bad luck for your marriage if you see each other a day before the wedding.

One more frequent planning mistake that happy couples make while preparing for their weddings is that they forget to look into such money saving options as wedding packages and deals offered by event planners.

Not only do these services offered by event planners and their wedding packages greatly reduce the stress of planning for the wedding, but they likewise will most often come in under budget and so allow the bride and groom to have a joyful and well planned wedding with little of the fuss of planning the wedding by themselves.
