Different Tucson Irrigation Methods And Tools Used

By Eliza Mendoza

In irrigation, water is applied through a controlled mechanism for agricultural uses and by man-made systems. It is a crucial agricultural process that is used for production of foodstuff. There are several irrigation techniques that are used for water application. They include; furrow, gravity, rotation, center-pivot, flood, drip, sprinkler, supplemental, surface, and travelling gun methods. In Tucson irrigation can be easily done by some of these techniques.

Center-pivot, for instance, is an automated sprinkler method that involves an automatically rotating the sprinkler pipe. Water is transferred to the sprinkler nozzles from the center point of the field to be irrigated. Water is usually delivered to the center of the system before sprinkling to the crops or land. In case of crop irrigation, the pipe is supported above the crop at fixed spacing and rotated by mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic or electric power on skids or wheels.

Drip method adopts a planned technique in which water is directly applied to the root zone of the crop. In the technique, water application is carried out with the aid of applicators like porous tubing, emitters, perforated pipes, and orifices, among other tools. Water is applied under low pressure and the applicators are stationed at either below or on the ground surface. Flood type requires large volume of water since water is applied all over the region to be irrigated.

Furrow technique is similar to flood method in that they require a lot of water for use, except that furrow allows partial flow of water through the dug rows. In gravity method, water is allowed to flow by the force of gravity. Rotation type on the other hand involves filling the irrigators with allotted water which is then delivered to the crops or field at certain intervals.

Irrigation is a dynamic practice and involves the use of a wide range of tools for several purposes. Some of the techniques are only special to certain methods, while some are just used for the general duties. Some of the basic tools used are; wire cutters, shovels, wrenches, knives, and hacksaws. There are also other tools that are only specialized for certain duties.

Some of the special tools include; the round and square pointed blade shovels, trenching spade, mattock, tamper bar, broom, landscape rake, work gloves, latex gloves, pipe wrench, measurement tape, riser extractor, hacksaw, wire cutter, screw drivers, sledge hammers, trencher machine, and many more. These tools are used for specific and general operations of installation. The point blades hovel in this case is used for digging larger holes for valves, multiple pipes, and many other duties.

Removal of dirt from the bottom of the trenches can be carried out using a trenching spade. Removal of rocks or digging short trenches, however, is best suited for a mattock. A tamper bar, on the other hand, has a huge head that is used to compact soil.

Landscape rakes are normally used for shaping the ground before planting. Just as the name suggests, PVC pipe cutter is used for cutting PVC pipes. Work and latex gloves are used to prevent blisters and keeping PVC cement from the hands, respectively. If living in Tucson irrigation tools like these can be found from the major stores in the region.
