The requesting individual is also required to indicate their personal information on the search since only the couple and their immediate families are allowed to request for a copy of the record.

The office of the Vital Records Section is where the marriage certificates of New York are being archived. However, the records of Albany, Yonkers and Buffalo between 1880 and 1907 are not archived by the state office. It has to be requested at the office of the county clerk where the marriage was originally registered. The county office can issue a copy of a marriage certificate regardless of the year.
