Voice writing was started half a century ago together with the initiation of the stone mask. As technology continued to develop, the process becomes better than it was sometimes back. During the training, the candidates are equipped with different skills. For instance, they are taught how to record sound and words when court orders are on going. They are also trained in how to make use of the different materials used during court proceedings like Steno type machines. The aspirants also learn how to do real-time sound recording, stenography and how to write a report electronically.

Upon completion of training, graduates are accredited by a national board of court reporters. In addition to transcribing a minimum of two hundred and twenty-five words per minute, students will have acquired other skills. A qualified legal transcriptionist must have good grammar and above-average listening skills. The ability to work with efficiency under strict conditions is a general requirement for legal transcription.

There are many topics to be covered by the candidates curing. They are desired to equip the aspirants with skills and knowledge to be able to pursue court orders. Students are also taught other units outside their career but with some relationship. These include medical terms, business, and business law. They learn the following computer-aided transcription, electronic report writing, vocabulary, grammar, and machine short-hand.

The training is offered differently. Some courses are offered on an hourly basis, some are offline and other are online courses. The students choose their appropriate courses depending on their schedule. The important thing is to obtain the certificate which acts as a proof of completion when searching for a job.

The legal transcriptionist can be given recognition from different firms. This depends on the efficiency and speed in which they do their work in court proceedings. To obtain these recognitions, you must attend court seminars or follow court trends.
