Understanding Power Washing Lancaster PA

By Carmella Watts

Pressure washing, or power washing Lancaster PA, is a technique used for removing dirt, paint, mud, mold, dust, loose paint and grime from the surfaces of buildings, vehicles and pavements. The equipment consists of a trigger gun switch, an electric or gasoline-powered engine and a hose that will stand up to extreme pressure flow without rupturing. There are various types of nozzle that can be used with these devices.

If you are planning to buy a used car, it is a very good idea to subject the engine to a pressure wash. This will remove oil, grease and grime and make it easy to detect if there are any leaks or problems under the hood. Equally, if you are selling a used car, give it the once over with a pressure washer to conceal any leaky spots!

Wooden fences and decking needs to be treated annually with creosote or other wood preservation material. Treating the area first with a power washer can help to remove loose wood, weeds, algae and other surface crud to make it easier to apply the sealant. In the same way, concrete patios can attract an accumulation of lichens, algae and other plant life that makes it look grubby and dirty. This, too, can benefit from the use of a pressure washer.

If you are planning to repaint the exterior surfaces of your house, then spraying it with a pressure washer can help prepare the surfaces to be painted. This could reduce the need for sanding, sugaring or other preparatory work. Not only that, it's kinda fun and the kids will want to take a turn helping you out.

Located in the south central part of the State of Pennsylvania, Lancaster is one of America's oldest inland towns. One of its most famous native sons was James Buchanan, 15th President of the United States. Its original name was Hickory Town, but it was renamed after a town in England. The city is symbolized by a red rose.

Lancaster County Prison, built in 1737 and designed in the style of an English castle by the same name, is still in use. Up until 1912, it was used for public hangings. Apart from James Buchanan, other luminaries to come form this part of the state include Robert Fulton, inventor of the steam engine, and influential Civil War Congressman, Thaddeus Stevens.

The world's very first Woolworth five and dime store was built here by J. W. Woolworth. Today, the Foot Locker has succeeded the J. W. Woolworth Company. Other landmarks in the town include the Hamilton Watch Complex, James Buchanan's estate, Wheatland, and the Fulton Opera House.

While power washing Lancaster PA is a very versatile and convenient technique, caution must be used to avoid damaging surfaces. For instance, water can be forced into masonry and bare wood, extending the time required for drying. This, in turn, can hamper later procedures like sealing or painting. Extremely high pressure instruments can be useful in removing graffiti and in other industrial cleaning operations. In many cases, pressure washing is preferable to sandblasting, which can leave a permanent scar on the surface being treated.
