The Adventure Of Joshua The Odyssey

By Amanda Baird

There are several points throughout history that have never been clearly explained. This leaves a lot of room for people to generate speculation and create their own versions of what might have actually happened. Joshua The Odyssey Of A Man is a novel in which the author takes an important period of time about which very little fact is known, and weaves an exciting tale of probability.

The Christian Holy Bible contains some of the most popular historical stories ever told. Unfortunately, there are large gaps between them that often leaves readers curious and trying to figure out what might have happened at those points. This is the case with the tale of a man who is the central personality of the entire second half of the tome.

Jesus Christ, the man from Galilee, the son of God, the one who died for the sins of all, is a major figure of all history and is known in some way by the majority of people no matter their religion, race or country of origin. His is a story that has been told and retold and is very dear to the hearts of many. The 18 missing years of his life have been the subject of many theories.

The Bible tells of Jesus' immaculate conception, contains three separate accounts of his birth and multiple stories of his childhood leading to his eviction from the temple for speaking bag to the rabbi at age thirteen. There is nothing more until age thirty-one when he reappears gathering his disciples and the period before his famous death, resurrection and ascension. That is where this creative work of fiction picks up.

Renaming the title character Joshua, the author continues the story from the point where a thirteen year old Jesus is removed from the temple after an issue with the rabbi. Dr. Mathew uses other period writings along with some intense social and economical research on the era in order to bring to life a story filled with believable personalities. He manages to virtually transport the reader back nearly 2,000 years.

This brilliantly written piece of historical fiction is the work of Dr. Theckedath Mathew, MD who pens each detail so vividly that the reader may forget they are not partaking of an actual biographical telling. He gives the title character a life filled with real situations with points of emotions, family and travel. The story takes place in multiple lands such as Athens, Egypt, Rome, Babylon and several others.

Joshua, like the man he is based on, is on a mission to spread God's word, to teach people how to live righteously and to help those in need. He is among the earliest proponent for women's rights as he stops a group of men from passing judgement on a woman and stoning her to death for what they see as sin. He tells that all are sinners and none should condemn others unless they, themselves, are pure.

Among the best pieces of historical fiction, Joshua The Odyssey Of A Man is one tale fans of this genre would not want to miss. With characters that are so detailed they virtually leap off the page, the reader feels as if they are actually there. Though not a factual account, it is one of the more intricate works of speculation ever printed.
