A Take On Air Conditioning PA

By Celina Heath

The current range of regulations governing the refrigeration industry have a direct impact on the operations of all key players. It is mandatory for all air conditioning PA firms to comply to laid out regulations to avoid closure. Restrictions may include banned imports for Ozone Depleting Substances, leak proof plumbing and schedules for doing away with the use of HCFCs in HVAC systems.

The efficiency of many living things is largely dependent on the prevailing climatic conditions. Due to the unpredictable nature of humidity, pressure and temperature, an artificial means of regulating these conditions must be sought to maintain efficient production. Any installed HVAC system must be self adjusting to cater for the varying demands associated with different seasons in the year.

The refrigeration principle is one of the most important aspects of a modern air conditioning system. The idea is to maintain the temperature of the target environment lower than that of the surrounding atmosphere. Because of the restricted volume in this space, there is a relatively higher rate of localized moderation of the target environment.

The most commonplace application of this concept is in the household refrigerator you use to keep your groceries fresh. The proliferation of bacteria on foodstuffs is associated with release of enzymes that disintegrate organic matter to give off noxious gases. The essence of storing groceries at near freezing point is to inhibit bacterial activity. Typically, the more perishable stuff like milk will be placed in the coldest compartments.

The air conditioning system transfers heat from a low energy unit to a higher capacity volume. Various arrangements may be employed depending on the loading placed on the system. The indoor air loop is very easy to visualize, with a fan blowing warm air over coils with cooled water and then reintroducing it back into the room. Besides chilled water, other refrigerants may be used to give users a wider range of temperature controls.

The property of gases loosing heat when it is suddenly expanded is used in vapor compression cycles. By this means, heat can be moved against the natural gradient from a cold enclosure to a warm room. The liquid draws heat of vaporization from the controlled process and is then compressed before being pumped to a condensation unit to liquefy it. This cycle is then repeated for as long as the system is in operation.

Some of the most popular commercial coolants are the R11, R12, R21 and R22 classes suited to the above systems. It must be appreciated that each product comes with its own specifications for operating pressures and auxiliary equipment to be employed. Among the factors that will influence the choice made by a client include cost of equipment and the availability of skilled labor for maintenance.

To assess the efficiency of an installation, air conditioning PA have defined various test parameters. The chiller tonnage is a direct measure of the cooling effect that is also used to estimate the specific power consumption for the system. The overall efficiency is indicated by a parameter known as the coefficient of performance.
