Everyone has the same desire to have a stable job that offers them the security that they need to take care of themselves and their family. For this reason, many people have chosen to enter the medical field. It is an industry that continues to grow and will do so in the future as people are living longer than ever. By receiving phlebotomy training in New York a person can enter this exciting field of work in a short amount of time.

Working with blood is the main things that a phlebotomist does. Whenever a person is going to have a blood transfusion done, they are the ones who will draw the blood. After that, they will label it and take it to the area it needs to go. Safety is a very important issue in this line of work due to the blood exposure they are around.

During training, a person will learn how to locate veins, how to properly swab an area with disinfectant and how to actually insert the needle into the patient to draw blood. If a person is not someone who can work with blood, becoming a phlebotomist may not be the right career for them. Proper use of needles, gauze, cotton and alcohol will also be taught.

There are times when a person can be overloaded with work. This will cause a bit of pressure while on the job. Being relaxed and comfortable in a clinical setting will help a person's performance. A person who works in this occupation should also now that they will need to be very discrete with patients information.

Other duties they will perform include verifying records of patients. It is very important to know someone's medical history before drawing blood from them. Labeling and storing blood correctly is also very important. A mishap here could cause some real problems. As you can see, a phlebotomist has very important responsibilities.

Being a people person will also help. Patients are often times scared whenever they are in a hospital or clinical setting. When a kind phlebotomist enters their room and is caring and understanding, a person will be comforted and feel more at ease. This will make the phlebotomy technician's job easier and make the patients visit a lot easier for them.

Once the training is done with, a person will have all of the necessary skills that are needed to enter the work force. Even though many states require their phlebotomy technicians to get licensed, New York does not. As long as a person has a certificate of completion from an accredited school, they can land an entry level position as a phlebotomist.

The phlebotomy training in New York that a person receives will be with them for the rest of their life. It is always wise to ask lots of questions about the school when choosing amongst them. When in doubt about a particular school, a possible future student can ask if they can see a class in progress. Many schools will have no problem with this and will more than welcome it.
